Our Goals & Objectives

To focus, coordinate and unify our many programs, efforts and individual contributions towards providing the best possible education for each Union City student, the Union City School District has defined the following goals and objectives.

A major goal of the District is to create an educational system where all students achieve proficiency in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and to ensure schools have support for quality teaching and learning. Recognized at the state level as a high performing Abbott District, the Union City School District will continue to provide effective, high-quality instruction according to goals that are consistent with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Abbott regulations and current educational research.

ESSA principles for reform—accountability, flexibility, expanded parental options and doing what works—are embedded throughout our District’s Three Year Operational Plan. This plan continues to improve the quality of education in Union City and to raise our expectations of what students can accomplish.
Union City School District’s Strategic Goals:
  • Goal 1: By 2013-2014, all students will reach high standards, at a minimum attaining proficiency or better in reading/language arts and mathematics.
  • Goal 2: All limited English proficient students will become proficient in English and reach high academic standards, at a minimum attaining proficiency or better in reading/language arts and mathematics.

  • Goal 4: All students will be educated in learning environments that are safe, drug free, and conducive to learning.
  • Goal 5: The District will increase student retention and encourage all students to graduate from high school while obtaining the necessary skills to pursue post-secondary education.
